A  huge 'thank you' to everyone who attended or supported the SLANZA Otago Regional Conference last weekend.  So far feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and the committee are delighted with how things went.  Over the next few weeks, we will be contacting workshop presenters to ask for copies of their presentations to share with you here.  We will also be sending out evaluation forms for your feedback and comments so please keep an eye on your inbox for the link and take a few minutes to respond.

If you attended the conference, we hope you were inspired, entertained and enlightened, and enjoyed catching up with old friends and making new ones. We look forward to seeing you again at the 2019 Waikato Regional Conference in Cambridge.

We are very excited to announce that our workshop programme has been finalised and is now available to view on the conference website.  We think it provides something for everyone, in all kinds of libraries, and we are delighted that so many wonderful presenters have agreed to share their knowledge and experience with us.  Delegates will be contacted after registering to select their workshops.  Every effort will be made to ensure that all delegates are entered into the workshops of their choice but in the case of workshop sessions being full, preference will be given to those who have already paid their registration fee.

And in more exciting news, the Conference dinner is shaping up to be an event not to be missed!  The dinner will be a buffet at the Kingsgate Hotel in central Dunedin and our guest speaker for the evening will be the effervescent Julie Woods (also known as That Blind Woman).  Julie is much sought after on the Dunedin speaking circuit, being that perfect blend of inspiration and entertainment.  Places at both the Conference dinner and our fabulous Friday night event can be reserved as part of the workshop selection process.  (Please note: the Conference dinner is not included in your registration fee and will cost an additional $55 per person).

To register for the SLANZA Otago Regional Conference, please visit the conference website and complete the online registration form.  You will receive a confirmation email within 2 or 3 days.  Registrations and fees are due before 10th September, but your early registration and payment would be much appreciated.

We have a specialist travel broker, Adam Pope, working with us for this conference. He can help you with accommodation and flight bookings for a good price. Please click here to enquire or make a booking through him, if you have not already made your travel arrangements.

We look forward to seeing you in Dunedin in September.

International Speaker Adele Walsh Coming to Dunedin

8/6/2018

We are very excited to announce that Adele Walsh will be travelling from Australia to speak and present at the SLANZA Otago Regional Conference.  Some of you will remember Adele from last year’s conference in Auckland and will already be shrieking with delight!  Adele has long been a passionate advocate of literature and for young people. She is the Programme Co-ordinator for the State Library of Victoria’s Centre for Youth Literature and has been instrumental in cementing the Reading Matters conference, Story Camp and the Inky Awards as highly regarded fixtures on the youth literature calendar.  Many of you will also be huge fans of the Inside a Dog website which is another of her very successful projects.  Adele is a dedicated supporter of youth readers and we are thrilled that she will be sharing her passion and enthusiasm with us.

Adele will be joining fellow keynote speakers, former Poet Laureate and Icon award recipient Bill Manhire, book recommender extraordinaire Joan MacKenzie from Whitcoulls, award winning author/illustrator Donovan Bixley and topical librarian blogger Moata Tamaira.

Registrations will be opening before the end of June so please keep an eye on your inbox.

Over the coming weeks, we will also be announcing workshops related to reading and literacy, developing library collections, engaging learners, and social media and libraries.  The programme will have wide appeal to the primary, intermediate and secondary school sectors, as well as to other libraries with a youth or children’s focus.

We have a specialist travel broker, Adam Pope, working with us for this conference. He can help you with accommodation and flight bookings for a good price. Please click here to enquire or make a booking through him.

The following details may help with your planning and budget requests:
  • Cost of registration for the weekend:  $150 for SLANZA members, $200 for non-members
  • Morning/afternoon teas, lunches and some refreshments on the Friday and Saturday evenings will be included as part of your registration.  Other optional social functions are not included in the registration cost and will be at your own expense
  • The weekend will begin on the Friday afternoon/early evening and conclude around 4pm on the Sunday afternoon
  • There is ample accommodation to suit all budgets available in Dunedin close to Otago Girls' High School.  Please make your own accommodation arrangements or contact Adam Pope using the link above. He has made a block booking at the Kingsgate Hotel for conference attendees (at a very good rate), and can also find you other accommodation at very competitive prices.  We suggest that you book early as Dunedin is a busy place and other events may be occurring at this time

We are still accepting conference sponsors and trade exhibitors. We are in need of a major sponsor. If you would be interested in either of these options, please contact the co-conveners Bridget Schaumann (sc@kingshigh.school.nz) or Carole Gardiner (caroleg@queens.school.nz).
