We are delighted to announce that our fourth keynote speaker at the Otago Regional Conference in September will be New Zealand author/illustrator Donovan Bixley. Donovan has produced over 70 books to delight readers of all ages, including recent publications (and works of art!) Much Ado About Shakespeare, the gorgeous Fuzzy Doodle (written by Melinda Szymanik), The Great Kiwi ABC Book, and his most recent books in the Flying Furballs series. We are thrilled that Donovan is joining us, to inspire and entertain us with his particular flavour of bookish good humour and fun. His award winning, top selling and supremely entertaining books are a joy to us all and we are very excited to welcome him to Dunedin in September.
Donovan will be joining fellow keynote speakers, former Poet Laureate and Icon award recipient Bill Manhire, book recommender extraordinaire Joan MacKenzie from Whitcoulls, and topical librarian blogger Moata Tamaira, with at least one more keynote speaker still to be confirmed. Registrations will be opening in June so please keep an eye on your inbox. Over the coming weeks, we will also be announcing workshops related to reading and literacy, developing library collections, engaging learners, and social media and libraries. The programme will have wide appeal to the primary, intermediate and secondary school sectors, as well as to other libraries with a youth or children’s focus. We have a specialist travel broker, Adam Pope, working with us for this conference. He can help you with accommodation and flight bookings for a good price. We are still accepting conference sponsors and trade exhibitors. If you would be interested in either of these options, please contact the co-conveners Bridget Schaumann ([email protected]) or Carole Gardiner ([email protected]).
